You are charged only in the request that issues your proof: the challenge is re-checked, the payment is settled, and the signed proof is returned in the same response. If the check fails or settlement fails, nothing is charged.
How the price is set
One price per issued proof, fixed before payment: the measured variable cost of one proof (checks including unpaid propagation retries, compute, a full database wake window, storage, transfer and the x402 settlement fee) × 3, rounded up to 0.001 USDC, with a 0.005 USDC minimum. Checks that fail are free; you pay only when the challenge is found and a signed proof is issued.
